Playa Balandra – La Paz
La Paz is a port city and the hub of the ferry service between Mexico and the Mexican peninsula state Baja California. Accordingly, anyone who wants to go to Baja California will pass through La Paz at some point. Even if it’s just to arrive and then take a bus to Cabo San Lucas, for example.
La Paz itself doesn’t really have that much to see or do itself. It’s more the surrounding area that can be really impressive and which you can of course visit on day trips by bus or car. So, after exploring La Paz itself – the beach and the streets – a little, I did some research and came across Playa Balandra.
Playa Balandra is an absolute gem and a real highlight. Honestly. (My photos don’t even begin to do justice to how beautiful the beach is, and it was cloudy on the day I took the photos. Go when the sun is shining and… it’s a completely different experience). The beach itself is shaped in a very unique way and has a kind of ‘hole’ in the middle of the front part, where it suddenly gets deeper and you can swim and snorkel.
Apart from that, you can walk along the entire beach, which stretches along the mountains, like a kind of very deformed horseshoe, and discover an incredible number of cool things along the way. And on top of that, there are several viewpoints here that are – honestly – really great. I’m still annoyed that I lost the SD card with the pictures from the viewpoint on it. But I’ll submit them later 😉
Go or not? I haven’t seen this kind of beach anywhere else in Mexico. Well, I haven’t been to every beach, but this one is honestly really special and really beautiful. So I would highly recommend that people who come this far – because you have to travel a long way to get to Baja California, unless you fly 😀 – take a whole day to visit the beach and viewpoint when they arrive to La Paz. Both are definitely worth it 😊

Viewpoint – Mazatlán
Mazatlán doesn’t really have that much to offer, but the view from the platform next to the lighthouse is honestly cool!
The viewpoint is located at the left end of the beach and the beach promenade, and there is an easy to moderately difficult ‘steep’ path that winds its way up the mountain to the top. There you will find the lighthouse and a view that is really cool.
You can see the harbour and the beach, and on the right, the part of Mazatlán which is completely untouristy and therefore not particularly well visited. And at the end of the path, when I came back down, there was a totally cute cat 😊
Go or not? If you’re in Mazatlán, you shouldn’t miss the viewpoint. It’s definitely the coolest thing you can see and do in Mazatlán.

Beach and Promenade – Mazatlán
Mazatlán is… I don’t think I would have ever come to Mazatlán if it weren’t for the ferry to La Paz, which takes you to Baja California. Because travelling inland until you reach the narrow strip of land at the top of the peninsula… Naaah. Above all, you have to take the same route back if you want to get back to the Mexican ‘mainland’. So it’s much shorter and more practical to take the ferry.
Back to Mazatlán. To be honest, there isn’t much to see in Mazatlán. Since I was there on a cloudy day, I naturally had this impression even more. But I don’t want to deny Mazatlán the credit it deserves. So:
Mazatlán is a medium-sized port city with a beach promenade and a really large and long beach that stretches from one end to the other like a giant curve. So there’s an incredible amount of space to chill out on the sand, splash around in the sea or just stroll along the Malecón or by the sea. And there’s also a cool sign that you pass by on the way. The coolest thing about Mazatlán is definitely the viewpoint at the lighthouse, but more on that in the next post.
Go or not? Well, I think that if you’re in Mazatlán, it’s definitely worth walking down to the beach or the Malecón. But it’s a really long way. So if you’re not a fan of walking or your feet/legs tire easily, maybe rent a bike or something 😀 😉

Yelapa
Yelapa is tiny, beautiful and a bit like a paradise dream that unexpectedly appears in front of your eyes.
The journey begins at a landing place that is, quite honestly, just as paradisiacal, with a dreamlike backdrop of palm trees and an incredible number of boats bobbing in the water. Then you take a boat across the sea to Yelapa and… basically arrive in paradise. A beautiful little village with boats bobbing around in the foreground and a picturesque backdrop of colourful houses and palm trees. It… My camera didn’t stop for a second. After arriving, we went to the place we actually came to Yelapa for: a medium-sized waterfall. Honestly? There are so many waterfalls in Mexico that are so much more beautiful and cooler… This one is nothing compared to them. But you can go splashing around in it 😀 Of course 😉
You can also explore Yelapa itself a little. There is a kind of lookout point, a few painted murals and a cute turquoise bench with ‘Yelapa’ written on it. However, by far the most beautiful part is down on the shore at the beach, where the boats arrive and bob up and down. 😊
Go or not? Not to the waterfall – although you should probably go if you’re already in Yelapa. And definitely to Yelapa itself. I’ve rarely had such a fantastic view and couldn’t get enough of taking photos. Really beautiful!

Streets of Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta is a small town right on the beach. Accordingly, most of the beautiful and special sights are located quite centrally on and/or close to the main beach. Of course, it is also a little more touristy here. Outside the centre, it becomes quieter and you can enjoy some truly beautiful views of the sea. There isn’t actually much to see in Puerto Vallarta itself, as the town is relatively small and quickly leads up the mountain into the interior.
Go or not? I think it’s worth taking a short walk in the centre, and the beach promenade is definitely worth a visit. Otherwise, however, other things in Puerto Vallarta are a little more interesting.

Beach Amapas – Puerto Vallarta
In addition to Puerto Vallarta’s main beach, there are a few other very beautiful beaches along the coastline. Beach Amapas is located directly behind Puerto Vallarta’s main beach and is basically only separated from it by a large, solid rock wall. This means that if you walk a little further along the coastal road, you will find yourself looking out over a small, truly beautiful and very quiet bay.
The beach itself is lined with rocks on the right and left and offers plenty of opportunities to go exploring. I myself found a rock on the left with a small viewing platform and a path on the rocks right by the sea with great views.
Go or not? I would take a little time to walk the entire coastal path anyway. And since it’s a bit more remote, quieter and less touristy here, the beach and the surrounding area are a wonderful change of pace 😊

Viewpoint of Puerto Vallarta
The viewpoint of Puerto Vallarta is truly a surprise. It is located quite high up, seemingly among trees, and I honestly did not expect the view to be particularly beautiful. Especially because I did not believe I would get a clear view of the city or the sea/ocean.
Contrary to all those expectations, the viewpoint of Puerto Vallarta is one of the coolest things and most beautiful places you can see. Although the viewpoint is located in the middle of trees, it offers a really beautiful and clear view of the coastline and the city of Puerto Vallarta. And the viewpoint itself is also a kind of covered in a cool structure. Very nice.
Go or not? Yes, definitely. There are a few things you have to do in Puerto Vallarta, and this is one of them 😊

Beach Promenade – Puerto Vallarta
Like every city by the sea, Puerto Vallarta has a beach promenade. In Puerto Vallarta, it runs along the beach for a long time, but I at some point had enough and didn’t continue to walk all the way to the end. I started more or less at the main beach and passed restaurants and shops, boats on the water, different sections of beach and, of course, lots of people doing all sorts of things on the beach or in the water. Once I saw a paddle boat with four men on it, another time a man praying to his pile of stones, elsewhere a woman admiring the sunset sitting on the wall, couples strolling and so on and so forth. The most impressive thing for me personally were the statues. I passed a dancing couple, two dolphins joined together and a woman who wanted to follow her children up the stairs. And, of course, the sign for Puerto Vallarta 😊
Go or not? The beach promenade is perfect for a long walk just before and during golden hour. That way, you can see everything and enjoy the sunset at the same time 😀

Beach Viewpoint – Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta is a small coastal city in Mexico, which I passed on my way to Baja California, with a beautiful beach and an even more beautiful viewpoint on the beach.
The viewpoint is basically like a path that winds its way slightly upwards towards the sea and has a kind of statue in the middle. At the front, you have a great view of the water as well as back to the beach and a few boats bobbing around in the sea.
Go or not? Yes, definitely. If you’re in Puerto Vallarta, I think you should definitely check out the viewpoint 😀 😊

Viewpoint El Pipila
Beautiful and incredibly cute. I personally have many really nice memories of this place. As I love viewpoints – as mentioned in several other posts – I knew from day 1 that I absolutely had to go up to this viewpoint.
Interestingly, the path up to it leads through winding alleyways and I’ll be honest – I followed other people the first time. It’s not like super easy to find the viewpoint if you don’t find the right entrance or take a wrong turn along the way (although there aren’t too many turning options on the way up).
When I reached the top, it was clear within milliseconds that I had just arrived at my favourite place in Guanajuato. The view of Guanajuato from up there is seriously amazing. And to the left of/next to the viewpoint there is a café built up in steps, from where the view certainly as well is pretty good.
Apart from that, the platform itself is large, but not huge and there are steps leading down to the platform when you arrive, where you can chill later once you’ve enjoyed the view. Because…. There is always something going on up there. There are always people – at really any time of day or night – and there’s always a good atmosphere. Whether it’s people playing music or others who have a speaker with them, people who have previously worked in the nightlife or evenings in Guanajuato and now want to enjoy the flair, or people who run up to the Pipila after partying to watch the sunrise. Because yes, sunset, night, sunrise and of course during the day – the Pipila is a amazing at any time. Both in terms of the vibe and the view.
I once went up there myself with one of my best Mexican friends after partying for the sunrise and it was simply magical. A really special place in a special little student town.
Go or not? To be honest, the question is oblivious. Like you can chose to not got up, but that‘s on you then 😀

Viewpoint & Park Independencia – Guadalajara
Very cute, beautiful and very quiet and peaceful. I would say that describes the ambience of the park/viewpoint de la Independencia near the CUAAD campus in Guadalajara. The viewpoint with the small park on top is located at the end of a street pretty much on the outskirts of Guadalajara. Like the viewpoint looks out over the surrounding countryside.
As I have an absolute weakness for viewpoints and legitimately haven’t found a better one or one with a view of Guadalajara itself, I went there and was… well, not underwhelmed, but the viewpoint is like Guadalajara itself. Beautiful, but just not amazing. However, you can chill out on the steps and just enjoy the view, have a snack and just be. And the park itself is also really cute and absolutely peaceful.
Go or not? If you like viewpoints and are in Guadalajara anyway, yes. Otherwise, no. Because it’s quite nice there, but not a must.

Mirador del Cielo – El Divisadero
Beautiful and breathtaking. I would say that best describes the view from the Viewpoint Del Cielo. I mean, all the views of the canyon in northern Mexico are simply incredible, but this one was definitely one of my favourites – though I do have quite a few 😀
It’s relatively easy to find, as it’s basically behind the hotel at Divisadero, up the path. Plus, the viewpoint is marked on Maps.
The path winds its way up and down, sometimes a little bit, sometimes a lot, and you pass some really beautiful views of the canyon and even get a glimpse of the canyon itself. So you’re kind of a little bit more ‘inside the canyon’. And that’s really cool.
When you finally arrive, you are greeted by a view that, at least for me at the time, made me say ‘wow’. And yes, absolutely, you can never get enough of the canyon. You are always completely fascinated by the incredible views. 😀
Go or not? Yep, definitely. No doubt about it. The hike is not difficult, the views and nature are great, and it is a hike genuinely in and along the canyon.
