Campeche is…. Really cute, very relaxed and incredibly small 😀 To be honest, I can’t remember exactly why I went to Campeche. Probably because the pictures online looked really nice. In fact, there’s not that much to see in Campeche itself. Mostly the streets, beautiful sunsets and one of the most relaxed and beautiful parks I’ve walked through in Mexico.
I still remember the first time I walked through this park towards the sea during Golden Hour and was instantly mesmerised. Really beautiful! As I had had a really long and exhausting day that day, it gave me what I needed and at the same time woke me up because I immediately pulled out my camera and took lots of photos. But even apart from that, Campeche is really worth a visit. But more on that in later posts. 😊
Park yes or no? Between you and me: you don’t need to go to Campeche if you don’t want to visit the park during Golden Hour. I though would do Campeche for a daytrip. I don’t know why, but I actually found it really magical.

Where: Campeche centre (Catedral de Nuestra Senora de la Inmaculada Concenpción)
Opening hours: during the day (probably from 11 at the latest)
Fee: free of charge 😊
Website: you won´t need that 😉
The cathedral in Campeche is a bit like the crown jewel of the Plaza de la Independencia. Or rather, the park is like a jewel of the cathedral. Depending on how you want to look at it. The cathedral itself is beautiful both inside and out, although I prefer the outside 😀 And when it’s lit up at night, you have to go back anyway 😀
Go or not go? It’s right next to the park, so of course! 😊

Sunsets in Campeche! I’m gonna be real with you now….. beautiful! Seriously! Like…. I have rarely been so mesmerised. Few places in Mexico could match or keep up with Campeche for me. Honestly. Just magical, beautiful and the one thing I found hard to let go of in Campeche.
I remember the first time I walked towards the Malecón in Campeche and could hardly take my eyes off it. Fortunately, there is a wall all the way down the Malecón in Campeche where you can sit down and enjoy the sunset – which many people do. Understandably. I also sat down, took out my camera, took a photo and then just stared at the horizon. And then took a couple more photos 😀 I’ve rarely been as captivated by a sunset as I was in Campeche.
Yes or no? YES! It’s even worth it if you only arrive for a stopover in the afternoon, stay one night and continue your journey the next day. The sunsets in Campeche are really beautiful! 😀

What: Campeche light show
Where: Plaza central in the Centro historico Campeche
Opening hours: in the evening after sunset
Fee: free
Website: non-existent
My memories of the light show in Campeche are relatively fragmented. Nevertheless, they are paved by a very specific scenery: how the whole main square or park is illuminated by these lights and images and everything is simply drawn into the spell of the story that the images paint on a beautiful building.
I had just come back from a marvellously beautiful sunset and so once again walked into the scenery completely by chance. I was pretty flashed and surprised and enjoyed it. Go or not? Just drop by the park after sunset. Maybe you’ll be lucky…

Campeche is small, feels tiny, and has just one beautiful area: the centro historico. Nevertheless, I went wandering around to see the rest because I thought, ‘You never know.’ Not a bad idea in itself – just to get to know the real Campeche. Well…. I started my excursion in the middle of the day because I thought then I’d have more time. In itself, yes, but…. Have you ever been out on the street at 12 o’clock in Mexico? There’s a reason why nobody’s out at that time of day. It’s fucking hot and you feel like you’re burning up as soon as you stand in the sun for even a second. I even remember the heat burning through my flip-flops making my feet burn. It was not at all pleasant. Accordingly, I took about three steps out and then turned back. At 2 o’clock I tried again and… it wasn’t great, but it worked. Well, that’s how I got my ‘off-the-beaten-path’ photos. I thought the water truck was particularly cool. I always wondered how Mexicans transport these huge canisters home… 😀
The streets of Campeche yes or no? Personally, I would say yes, but only plan to spend an afternoon at most. It’s very small.

Well, it’s not really street art street art stuff, but rather a few walls that are painted and that you find randomly in the centre. It’s quite cool, but it’s also nothing outrageous. Nevertheless, I confess that I really liked the facial expressions on some of the murals. But whether you should really look for them explicitly well… Nevertheless, you will probably discover them on the way from the centre to the sea anyway. 😀
