The Rhine ges straight through Cologne. Therefore we have so many bridges and separate Cologne into left- and right sided of the Rhine. At the same time people use to like to chill at the water from time to time, go biking, skatboarding or whatever. To not let this only be possible for people living in certain placrs, like right next to the Rhine, there is a way alng the river where you can get from one end of the city to another. Therefore you can for example go from Riehl/Niel by bike along the river to bonn – our neighbour city. This is exactly the path i took by bike. I discovered place I have never seen in my ife before. FYI: Obviously there are many more nice stops along the way. There are just my personal highlights and biggest surprises.
Start – Biketour along the Rhine
Stop 1 – Beach Rodenkirchen
Stop 2 – Big Beach Rodenkirchen
Stopp 3 – Piece of Forest
Stopp 4 – Viewpoint in Weiß

Biketour along the Rhine
Basic Information
What: Bike tour Where: Start at the South Bridge in the direction of Godorf Opening hours: 24/7 Fee: free How to reach: Line 16 + 17, stop Schönhauserstraße
Guys attention please! I’m going to tell you something that is like general knowledge in Cologne, but funnily, very few tourists know. You can walk along the Rhine in Cologne non-stop. From one side all the way to Bonn – that is, to the other side. No joke! Really cool! At the same time, this means you can go on mega cool bike tours, because – come on, what’s better than going along the water by bike when the weather is nice? With a cool breeze on your face, through the green, through sun and shade… Seriously, what could be better than a bike ride on a beautiful sunny day? Only if you can find the time, of course. But for the sporty nature lovers among you who like to exercise in the fresh air, take your time. On top, you’ll get to know Cologne from a totally different side 🙂

Calm beach for a little refreshment
Basic Information
What: Beach Where: Rodenkirchen, directly on the banks of the Rhine Opening hours: 24/7 Fee: free How to reach: do yourself a favour and go by bike 😀 Website: Maps location:
There are two stretches of beach in Rodenkirchen that I find worth mentioning. This one is relatively calm and very peaceful, but not particularly wide. So it’s more like something to refresh yourself and take a short break. So if you just want to chill for a second. Of course, it’s also not a beach like in Spain, for example. Still, it’s a cute little spot with a nice view of the Rhine. My tip: just include the spot in your bike tour. I discovered it that way 🙂

Want a beach to chill on? - Big beach in Rodenkirchen
Basic Information
What: Beach Where: Rodenkirchen Opening hours: 24/7 (unless it gets flooded by the tide, that I don’t know) Fee: free How to reach: do me a favour and just cycle there from any train stop (you can also do it as a bike tour) Website: Maps location:
When I was there, I found the beach to be a very quiet, almost restful place. It was quiet, peaceful and big enough to chill out in a private way and be by yourself. I’ve already told you about the smaller beach in Rodenkirchen, for example. This one is bigger and a real beach. So you can picnic, sunbathe, maybe even go swimming – but not far in! – That kind of thing. I discovered it on my bike tour from the Südbrücke bridge in the direction of Godorf. Until then, I had always thought that the Rhine Park was the only place where we had nice stretches of beach. But no! I’d say this beach is worth it if you’re in Rodenkirchen anyway or staying in a hostel there, have already checked out the main attractions and it’s a sunny and beautiful day. Then I would just go there even without a bike tour 🙂

A little piece of forest
Basic Information
Where: Cologne somewhere between Rodenkirchen and Weiß Opening hours: Fee: How to be reached: not at all, you’ll have to do a bike ride for that Website: Maps location:
Why am I making an extra post out of this? Honestly? I think just to prove that there are such things as thoroughly green, quiet and peaceful corners in Cologne. I swear, if you’re there, you have no idea that this is Cologne. And that’s exactly why it’s worth mentioning. Of course, this piece of forest is part of the bike ride and of course you shouldn’t go there without the explicit plan of a walk, picnic or bike ride. I just wanted to prove to you that this also exists here and that even the nature freaks would not be disappointed by Cologne. So that was it. Have fun on your bike tour! 😀

Mini stop for a bike tour and/or sweet view
Basic Information
What: View Where: Weiß, directly next to the Rhine Opening hours: 24/7 Fee: free How to reach: please do me a favour and include the view in a bike tour. With public transport it would probably be so complicated that it wouldn’t be worth it. Honestly. But as bike tour stop it is sweet.
Weiß is a district of Cologne that I honestly didn’t know that it existed. When I saw the sign saying “Weiß” for the first time, I briefly wondered if I had driven so far that I had already left Cologne without realising it. You just don’t really feel like you’re in Cologne. It’s all very quiet and more like you’ve landed in a village or a place completely away from Cologne. But in fact Weiß belongs to Cologne and is a district of Cologne. And not even the one farthest away. Also I until then didn’t know that Cologne could be so rural, quiet and completely different from what I know. As I said, it was as if I had entered another world. It’s not a sight to go to, but it’s a nice stop if you’re planning or doing a bike tour. Especially for one along the Rhine, of course 😀 😉
