The Parían

Basic information

What: Market with handmade things (El Parían)
Where: Puebla
Opening hours: 10-21.00 (if my research is correct)
Fee: free
Website: there is none

Colourful, crowded and yet orderly and special. That’s how I would describe El Parían. El Parían is a market with handmade things in Puebla.
Admittedly, I didn’t go there to buy anything because I knew in advance that it would be expensive. However, the Parían has a reputation for being particularly Instagrammable because it consists of just one alleyway lined with hut after hut. In the centre of the Parían is a white, elongated stone sofa that ends in a corner at one end. This means you have the colourful huts to the left and right and at the same time the corridor with either a white stone sofa or simply the corridor in the background.
A special feature of the Parían is that the huts are made of stone. This means that they are not set up and rebuilt every day by the stall holders, but remain in place and are more like shops. Of course, the huts sell on both sides.
Nevertheless, this is by far – by a huge margin – the most clearly organised and smallest market with handmade items that I have ever seen in the whole of Mexico.
Nevertheless, it has everything and quite honestly… the photos are really great! It’s completely true that the market is very instagrammable. And the prices are of course a little higher than elsewhere due to its fame. Nevertheless, you get to see some really cool things here. Sometimes in a form or type that you might not necessarily see in Mexico 😊
To go or not? In any case. The Parían is one of the main attractions in Puebla and I think it’s worth just strolling around.
