Campeche is small, feels tiny, and has just one beautiful area: the centro historico. Nevertheless, I went wandering around to see the rest because I thought, ‘You never know.’ Not a bad idea in itself – just to get to know the real Campeche. Well…. I started my excursion in the middle of the day because I thought then I’d have more time. In itself, yes, but…. Have you ever been out on the street at 12 o’clock in Mexico? There’s a reason why nobody’s out at that time of day. It’s fucking hot and you feel like you’re burning up as soon as you stand in the sun for even a second. I even remember the heat burning through my flip-flops making my feet burn. It was not at all pleasant. Accordingly, I took about three steps out and then turned back. At 2 o’clock I tried again and… it wasn’t great, but it worked. Well, that’s how I got my ‘off-the-beaten-path’ photos. I thought the water truck was particularly cool. I always wondered how Mexicans transport these huge canisters home… 😀
The streets of Campeche yes or no? Personally, I would say yes, but only plan to spend an afternoon at most. It’s very small.
