Puebla is like a small metropolis. It’s also a bit like a miniature version of Mexico City. Anyone who has been to Mexico City before or after Puebla will know what I mean. The vibe, the atmosphere and both cities are similar, except that it’s much quieter and more relaxed in Puebla. So less tráfico, it’s obviously smaller and not quite as chaotic.
In fact, that was exactly the vibe I got when I arrived at the Zócalo in Puebla. It is just as big as it should be in a smaller city with big city flair but still relaxed and without the hustle and bustle. And that’s exactly what the Zócalo radiates. It’s lively, but very relaxed, which invites you to linger and relax, and at least I used that regularly 😀
The cathedral, which is somehow halfway round the corner from the Zócalo, is also large but not huge and very relaxed. In my opinion, it looks a bit grey from the outside, but still impressive and the interior somehow disappointed and surprised me at the same time. I think it’s because the cathedral is really big and it just seems a bit smaller inside than I might have expected. Nevertheless, it’s definitely beautiful and worth a visit. 😊
To go or not to go? The Zócalo is the absolute centrepiece of Puebla and if you want to know what’s going on in Puebla right now, the Zócalo will definitely help you 😀 And the cathedral is not to be sneezed at either and a quick look inside shouldn’t hurt, right? 😉
