Mexico City is…. huge. Honestly. There is so much to see and so many museums. You can really do EVERYTHING in Mexico City. As Mexico City is so big, it naturally has different faces. They are like a big puzzle and together they paint the picture of Mexico City’s character.

The Zócalo and the cathedral are large, impressive and radiant. Here you can really feel the pride that this city, like this country, has for Mexico City. Both are located in, let’s say, the historic centre and touristic heart of Mexico City. The Zócalo is large and mighty and radiates an incredible amount of pride. I’ve been here on several occasions and there are regular festivties or events. Apart from that, you will see shamans or fake shamans (no offence) everywhere around the Zócalo, who cleanse people of negative energies for a small tip.

The cathedral, which towers over and next to the Zócalo, is large, pompous and has that aura of a of pride swollen chest. It is also probably the most visited cathedral in Mexico City.
Right next to the cathedral and the Zócalo is a ruins site, which can be visited completely free of charge and for which there is also a small museum in the house near the ruins.

I must confess that I have so many stories about the Zócalo and have walked past or over it so often that I find it difficult to put into words what it represents. I think centrepiece and pride of Mexico City is a pretty good description. Although there are so many more places that go with these two words. But at the Zócalo and from the cathedral you can really feel both. From here you can also get to an incredible amount of main sights, museums, the shopping street, other great buildings, a market, to…. Simply so much that you will definitely want to see when you are in Mexico City. 😀

Go or not go? Of course yes! Apart from that, the Zócalo is a fantastic starting point for any discovery tours through the centre. So you definitely shouldn’t miss out on the cathedral and the Zócalo 😊
