El Palacio de Bellas Artes is right in the centre of Mexico City and is one of the most beautiful, magnificent and proudest buildings in Mexico City.
When I walked towards Bellas Artes for the first time, I briefly thought I had arrived at Mexico City’s Zócalo with its cathedral. Because the square in front of Bellas Artes is really big and completely made of marble and the building itself is also really beautiful, made of marble and has an orange-yellow-gold dome, which really adds something very special to the whole thing. I’m not saying that Bellas Artes looks like a classical church, just that the building could have been the main cathedral in terms of its appearance, beauty and size. So I looked it up on Maps and realised ‘No, that’s not yet it.’ Funnily enough, I ended up being more impressed by Bella’s Artes than by the cathedral itself 😀 But shhhh! 😉

The cool thing about Bellas Artes is that not only is it a really beautiful building, but you can also go inside and! Inside, everything is covered in marble and there are grand staircases and magnificent paintings and stuff. So don’t get me wrong, I think the outside of Bella’s Artes is unbeatable, but the inside isn’t bad either. 😀 So in this case I would really take the time and have a look around inside. Afterwards you can chill out in the park next to it.

The park itself is very relaxed, very clean, has a pavilion in the centre where dance classes often took place in the evenings when I was there and the paths – apart from those that lead along the streets, of course – run at a certain diagonal angle. So one path leads to the next fork and then to the next again. Yet you can overlook everything really well, because it’s not too stuffed with trees and stuff. So you can more or less see the whole park at all times.
I myself have sat down here countless times and either relaxed, had something to eat or chilled out with friends. Admittedly, after a short time I was always approached by someone when I was travelling alone, but that’s the fate of a non-Latin American tourist in Latin America. Not meant in a mean way, it’s just a fact 😀

Go or not go? Definitely! Personally, I think the Palacio de Bellas Artes is one of the most beautiful buildings in Mexico City and probably in whole Mexico. And while you’re here, you could also just pop in and chill out in the park before moving on. 😊
