I confess I have a thing for markets. However, this one has really earned its way into my heart. This market simply has EVERYTHING you’ve ever seen and wanted in Mexico. Full stop. And at what is definitely the cheapest price you’ll find. So – no wonder – I went out of my way and bought one or two little things here. I also made a stopover in San Cristóbal at some point, just because I wanted to get something in San Cristóbal and visit my absolute favourite bakery in the whole of Mexico one last time. So a) I really think a lot of San Cristóbal and b) I really think a lot of this market.
When I say you can get everything at the market, I mean it. T-shirts, dresses, jumpers, hoodies, shorts and long trousers, shoes, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, bags, rucksacks, scarves, purses…. Basically everything a woman’s heart – or mine for that matter – desires. 😀 I can’t tell you how many times I strolled around this market and looked at everything in detail to find the perfect item. And then, of course, the haggling started 😀
At one point it was pouring with rain and plastic tarpaulins were stretched everywhere. That was something…. I’ve never seen the market so empty….
Well, the main point is this: the market is really great, colourful, cheap and has everything you can imagine in terms of souvenirs or simply cool Mexico style stuff. And if you’re looking for a little something nice for your loved ones at home, this is also your place to be.
I, for one, could spend hours strolling around the market and getting lost in all the stuff there. Apart from that, the market is damn big! And unfortunately quite confusing. So proceed with a system…. It works, but it’s not easy 😀
To go or not to go? Personally, I think you should have visited this market if you’ve been to San Cristóbal. Not so that you all run off and buy something, but rather to have absorbed the vibe. Just strolling through this market and soaking up the Mexican culture is something special. Because yes, you see this stuff everywhere. And no, it’s not just touristy stuff here, but also clothes that people in Mexico actually wear in everyday life. You just have to pay attention. So don’t miss out on this market! 😊
